Managing Digital Assets: Planning the Digital Future of NIST

Title: Managing Digital Assets: Planning the Digital Future of NIST

Authors: Makar, Susan

Abstract: The Information Services Division (ISD) at the National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) is currently studying its needs for
managing all aspects of its existing and future digital content. A team
of staff tasked with determining how best to manage NIST’s digital
assets will discuss their work and progress.

Description: Susan Makar is a research consultant and knowledge management librarian in the Information Services Division at the
National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, MD. She holds an M.A. in library and information
science from the University of Iowa. As Web Manager, she is responsible for the overall design and management of ISD’s Web sites, including the NIST Virtual Library (NVL) and the NIST Virtual Museum (NVM). She is currently leading ISD’s effort to determine how best to manage NIST’s digital assets.

Managing our E-resources Licenses: License Expression Standards

Title: Managing our E-resources Licenses: License Expression Standards

Authors: Robertson, Nathan D. M.

Abstract: DLF's Electronic Resource Management Initiative (ERMI) indicated a need
for standardization of e-resource license terms and administrative
details. This will facilitate licensing communication among libraries
and their partners, but must respect the interests of all
participants. Prominent issues include protection of intellectual
property, copyright and fair use, and DRM technology.

Description: Nathan D.M. Robertson is the Electronic Resources Librarian for the University of Maryland School of Law Baltimore, MD

Title: Usage Statistics for Serials Decision-Making

Authors: Belvadi, Melissa; Schufreider, Bob

Abstract: This session has two parts. The first part will discuss the trials and
tribulations of the current library wrestling with how to collect,
consolidate and prepare a thoughtful analysis of their usage data from
their vendors and how new systems are in place to help libraries
achieve their goals. The second part will explore ways to use such data
from vendors and local servers to make new/renewal/cancellation
decisions for serials in particular.

Description: Melissa Belvadi earned her MLS from UCLA in 1993 with a specialization in information systems design. Prior to that,

she worked as a professional programmer and Unix system administrator. She currently holds the rank of Associate

Professor, tenured, at Maryville University in St. Louis, MO, with the formal title, "Systems and Services Librarian",
where she has been for the last 8 years.
Bob Schufreider is the North American sales manager for MPS Technologies.

Providing Access to Electronic Journals in Academic Libraries

Title: Providing Access to Electronic Journals in Academic Libraries

Authors: O’Hara, Lisa

Abstract: Practices and procedures for providing access to electronic journals
have changed in the relatively short time that they have been handled
in libraries. This presentation will discuss some of those changes,
examine how libraries are currently providing access to electronic
journals and discuss where we think we are going.

Description: Lisa O'Hara has been Electronic Resources Cataloguer at the University of Manitoba Libraries in Winnipeg, Canada since 2002. Prior to this, she held a variety of positions in cataloguing and technical services at academic, special and public libraries over a period of ten years. She has been a trainer for the CONSER coordinated Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program for the workshop on integrating resources since 2003 and has presented to local groups on providing access to electronic resources.
