Continuing Access to Electronic Resources

Title: Continuing Access to Electronic Resources

Authors: Beals, Nancy; Junus, Ranti; Rhodes, Sarah; Rupp, Nathan; Smith, Kelly

Abstract: Electronic resources are growing exponentially. Serials are only one example of this. Collection developers need firm criteria when they are
thinking about moving their collection to an electronic environment. The preservation and continued access to these electronic resources
is not only a necessity but also an obligation for libraries. Libraries are not only committed but responsible for providing to their users the
necessary information in the format that is best. This information needs to be managed carefully so that our patrons can access it when and
where they need it.

Description: Nancy Beals ia an Electronic Resources Librarian at Wayne State University. Ranti Junus is a Systems Librarian at Michigan State University. Sarah Rhodes is a Digital Preservation Librarian at Georgetown Law Library. Nathan Rupp is a Collection Development Librarian at University of Michigan. Kelly Smith is a Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian at Eastern Kentucky University Libraries.

Improving Information Distribution Through Standards

Title: Improving Information Distribution Through Standards

Authors: Carpenter, Todd

Abstract: Distribution of digital content would not be possible without standards. An increasing percentage of acquisitions budgets are earmarked to eResources
and standardization of the ordering, access, and preservation processes is critical to effective management of this digital content. The presentation will
provide an update on current and developing standards projects.

Description: Todd Carpenter is the Managing Director of National Information Standards Organization (NISO)

The Life & Times of an Embedded Librarian

Title: The Life & Times of an Embedded Librarian

Authors: Chilton, Galadriel

Abstract: In Fall 2007, Galadriel became the embedded librarian for four sections of a Communications Studies class, and in Spring 2008 she is the embedded librarian for 3 sections of the same course. This presentation reviews what she did or is doing and whether she believes -- based
on anecdotal data, student bibliographies, and student self-evaluations -- being an embedded librarian is an effective means of teaching students about eResources and other library services.

Description: Galadriel Chilton is an Electronic Resources Librarian and an instructor in the School of Education at University of Wisconsin, La Crosse.
