Title: Preparing to Implement a Electronic Resources Management System, or Getting Your Ducks in a Row Before You Dive In

Authors: Davis, Susan

Abstract: Planning strategies for implementing an Electronic Resource Management System (ERM), including record structure, licensing, staffing levels, training and workflow based on the work done at the University at Buffalo with the III stand alone ERM as a case study.

Description: Susan Davis is co-head of the Electronic Periodicals Management Department in the University Libraries' Central Technical Services at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. This department manages all aspects of nearly 36,000 e-serials. Prior to assuming this position in 2005, she was head of the Periodicals Section in the Acquisitions Department at UB, and previously head of Serial Records in the Serials Department. Before coming to Buffalo in 1984, she was head of the Serials Department at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Susan is a former NASIG president (1998) and former chair of the Serials Section in the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services division of the American Library Association. She remains an active committee member in both organizations and has attended all NASIG conferences to date. She edits a column of conference reports for Serials Review and has published reports for both Serials Review and the Serials Librarian. She has given presentations at NASIG, ALA and other regional conferences and will be heading off next week to give a workshop at the United Kingdom Serials Group Conference at the University of Warwick.

Managing issues of information ownership in the digital environment: examining the ethical climate in libraries

Title: Managing issues of information ownership in the digital environment: examining the ethical climate in libraries

Authors: Webber, Sheri

Abstract: This study explores the ethical climate of libraries with a particular focus on issues of
information ownership in the electronic resources management environment. Modified versions
of Victor and Cullen’s ethical climate typology (ECT) and ethical climate questionnaire (ECQ)
were employed to discern prevailing ethical climate types in libraries generally, and the
relationships between normative decision making and reported practice in individual
organizations.

Description: Sheri Webber is a doctoral candidate at the College of Information, Florida State University

The Electronic Resource Management Enigma: the Vendor Solution, the Homegrown Realities, and the Grey Areas of Practicality

Title: The Electronic Resource Management Enigma: the Vendor Solution, the Homegrown Realities, and the Grey Areas of Practicality

Authors: Hattig, Natalee; Harrison, Johanna

Abstract: This program will present information about electronic resource management at the Florida State University Libraries. Currently the FSU Libraries are implementing a vendor-based electronic resource management system. However, this solution will not solve every problem. The authors will present a blended strategy for using both vendor solutions and home grown web applications for enhanced usability and access.

Description: Natalee Hattig is the Electronic Resources Librarian at Florida State University. She is responsible for managing and coordinating the licensing, ordering, renewal, and accessibility of electronic resources; along with gathering and analyzing data to evaluate patron usage and vendor performance for electronic resources. Ms. Hattig was previously head of Access Services at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

Preparing for an Electronic Resources Management System, Part I: Conquering Entropy

Title: Preparing for an Electronic Resources Management System, Part I: Conquering Entropy

Authors: Hogarth, Margaret

Abstract: Preparing for an ERMS requires extensive planning and coordination of
departments, workflow, resources, information, record-keeping systems,
and relationships. Clean data, process analysis, and frank evaluation
help the process. Feedback from the process can help the organization
implement change. Come and see a progress report on UC Riverside’s
well-intentioned plan.

Description: Margaret Hogarth has been Electronic Resources Coordinator for University of California, Riverside Libraries since

2004. She also provides reference at the Humanities and Science Libraries. Previously she was Interim Web

Coordinator and a Reference and Systems Librarian for California State University, Fullerton. MLIS 1999, San Jose
