&lt;br/&gt;Abstract: Distinguished alumnus Jerome M. Cooper (BS Arch 1952, B Arch 1955) will discuss his journey, from the questions learned in school to making cities.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Description: Presented on April 1, 2009 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm in the Architecture Auditorium.; Since establishing Cooper Carry in 1960, Jerry Cooper has helped guide the firm to a position of national prominence. Under his tenure, Cooper Carry has developed a well-earned reputation for consistency of quality architecture. In 1987, the firm received the Atlanta Chapter AIA (American Institute of Architects) Silver Medal for Design Excellence. Over the last 40-plus years, Cooper Carry has received more than 100 design awards. Individually, Cooper has received the Rothschild Medal, the highest award granted by the AIA Georgia Chapter, and the Leadership Award, which was given by the AIA Atlanta Chapter in recognition of his professional talent. Cooper was also recognized by the AIA for his design excellence and long-standing involvement in the profession by being elevated to “Fellow” within the organization. He is currently an active leader in several of the firm’s practices, including Office, Corporate and Government. &#xD;
&#xD;
Cooper is a Fellow with the American Institute of Architects (FAIA). He holds Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Architecture degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology. He received a Fulbright Fellowship to the Universite di Roma in Rome, Italy and was a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome, Italy in 1997. Cooper is registered in 21 states and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.</description>

&lt;br/&gt;Abstract: While Georgia Tech grads have been shaping the buildings of Atlanta since the early 20th century, the College’s significant impact on urban design in metro Atlanta is a more recent phenomenon. Atlantic Station and the Beltline are but two of the transformational projects with roots in Georgia Tech thesis projects. This panel discussion with young leaders in Atlanta’s urban design and development reflects on the role of the College in advancing more sustainable urbanism.

&lt;br/&gt;Abstract: Manuel Cadrecha (Arch 1977) is an expert in corporate, commercial and civic architecture. As a Design Principal at Perkins + Will with over two decades of experience, Manuel’s creative solutions have been recognized with numerous regional and national design awards. Manuel’s design for the CDC National Center for Environmental Health recently achieved a LEED Gold Certification, the First Federal Government High-Performance Laboratory to achieve that distinction. He is also a national leader for the firm’s corporate + commercial + civic practice. Manuel is recognized as a successful consensus builder, creating a unified design tone for each project. He is a visiting design critic at the Georgia Institute of Technology and serves on both the curriculum advisory board and the alumni advisory board. Manuel has also served on the board of the Latin American Association, the St. Joseph’s Mercy Care Board and the Cultural Diversity Board of Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. Manuel serves on the firm’s Board of Directors.
