Abstract: A performance summary of a mechanical size reduction technology is presented. Results demonstrate the time required to perform size reduction on a bale of carpet waste, and the resulting volume reduction achieved therefrom. The reduction in volume is then related to operating cost of the size reduction equipment, to estimate the total cost of reduction. The characteristics of the size-reduced material are presented in a form to suggest alternative uses for the waste materials.
