Minutes of October 1, 2002

Members Present: Lynn Fountain (GTRI), Tom Horton (GTRI), Maureen Kilroy (GS&R), Jim Sowell (PHYS), Jane Weyant (CoE), Jerry O’Brien (CoS), Carol Colatrella (LCC), Jeffrey Donnell (ME)

Members Absent: Beth Carey (EAS/GS)

Visitors: George Harker (Office of Technology Licensing)

1. Lynn Fountain called the meeting to order at 3:15.

2. Corrections were made to the minutes from the September ASC meeting. Minutes were approved as amended.

3. George Harker, Director of the Office of Technology Licensing, made a presentation on how intellectual property issues are handled at GT. The web site http://otl.gtrc.gatech.edu/ provides a useful overview of OTL and contact information for personnel. Notably, OTL works to protect student, staff, and faculty rights. A suggestion was made to include information on OTL in faculty and graduate student orientation meetings.

4. The committee elected Jeffrey Donnell as secretary.

5. The next meeting is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on November 12, 2002. The tentative speaker is Joe Boland from Distance Learning.

6. The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
