MINUTES OF THE UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEETING

April 2, 2003

 

 

PRESENT: Davis (ECE), Dowling (COA), Finkelstein (PHYS), Guzdial (COC), Hughes (ECE), Jackson (Student), Jarrett (COA), Kohl (ChE), McIver (REG), McMath (PROVOST), Moran (CHEM), Parsons(DCOM), Sankar (AE), Schneider (DCOM), Stasko (COC), Wills (ECE)

 

VISITORS: Johnson (ODOS for DiSabatino), Schork (ChE)

 

 

1.       A motion was made to approve the minutes of the March 12, 2003 minutes.  The motion was seconded and approved.  Unanimous.

 

2.       Informational Items:

·         The College of Architecture requested the creation of COA 4801-2-3-4-5, Special Topics.

·         A request was made by the Registrar’s Office to approve several course revisions that were identified during the production of the catalog.  These revisions were mainly pre-requisite changes and deactivation of courses.

3.       The SCHOOL OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING requested the following changes in degree requirements.  A motion was made to approve the request.  The motion was seconded and approved.  Unanimous.

·         Delete CHEM 3281 (3-3-4)

·         Add BIOL 1510 (3-3-4)

·         Add 3 credit hours of “Chemistry Elective,” selected from CHEM 3281 (3-3-4), CHEM 3511 (3-0-3), or CHEM 4511 (3-0-3)

·         Decrease the number of “Technical Electives” from 9 credits to 6 credits.

·         Modify the definition of courses that may be used as “Chemical Engineering Electives”

·         No net change in credit hours required for the degree

 

  1. There was a discussion of program reviews.  Chairman Hughes gave background stating that reviews were required by SACS, the Board of Regents, and the charge of the Committee in the Statutes.  Mark Guzdial, who represents the IUCC on the ad-hoc Institute Review Committee discussed that committee and the proposal to make it a standing committee of the Faculty to coordinate the review process, with input from the Graduate and Undergraduate Curriculum Committees.

 

  1. Chairman Hughes discussed the organization of the Committee and requested that the new members be invited to attend the summer meetings.  No objections were raised.

 

  1. The Committee reviewed 3 petitions and heard one appeal.  One petition was tabled.  All others were approved except as noted:

 

1-to readmission summer 2003 (1 denied)

3-to withdraw from course past deadline
