PROPOSAL: UNDERGRADUATE MINORS

In order to encourage and officially to acknowledge the attainment by students of a fair measure of expertise and knowledge in more than one academic field and with the intention of offering students the opportunity to broaden their education through a minor field, the College of Architecture proposes/institutes the following minors

A.                 Architectural History

B.                 Multi-Disciplinary Design/Arts History

Guidelines and Requirements:

The Architectural History Minor recognizes the successful completion of a program of study in various history-focused areas of the history, theory, and criticism of architecture.

The Multi-Disciplinary Design/Arts History Minor recognizes the successful completion of a focused program of study in multiple related fields in the history of arts/design with selected course work in architectural history, the history of industrial design, the history of planning and urban design, the history of landscape architecture and gardens, the history of decorative arts, art history, and music history.

1.                   Each minor program consists of at least 18 semester hours of which 12 semester hours are advanced upper level course work (numbered 3000 or above) in a field of study other than the student’s major and must be completed in residence at Georgia Tech.  By approving the minor proposal, the College of Architecture attests that by successful completion of the minor, a student has attained a fair measure of expertise and knowledge in the minor field.

2.                   All courses counting toward the minor must be taken on a letter-grade basis and must be completed with an overall grade point average of at least 2.5 [Ga Tech requires 2.0]

3.                   Courses required by name and number in a student’s major degree program may not be used in satisfying the course requirements for a minor.

4.                   No more than 4 semester hours of Special Topics courses may be included in a minor program

5.                   Special Problems courses may not be used in the minimum 18 hours of a minor program.

6.                   Courses used in a minor may also be used to fulfill area requirements (free electives, technical electives, social science electives, humanities electives, etc.) as approved by the student’s major school.  However, area minimum requirements must be met in total (combined totals for SS/Humanities may not be used).

7. A student may have no more than two minors.
