Minutes

23 October 2002

Absent: Lionel Lemarchand (ModL), Gail Palmer (ECE)

1. The meeting was called to order at 9:35 A.M. by Carole Moore, Chair.

2. The minutes from the 13 September meeting were read and approved.

3. Moore announced that in the 8 October General Faculty meeting the State of the Institute address was given. Items addressed were facilities, Technology Square, and the Child Care Center. The issue of health insurance for Graduate Teaching Assistants and Graduate Research Assistants was raised as well as security for the move into Technology Square. The Welfare and Security Committee was asked to review these issues.

4. Moore gave an update on the Director of Security search in which the committee members participated.

5. Moore reported that Bob Thompson is managing the follow up on Lee Wilcox’s efforts on the Campus Safety Task Force. Ingram stated that the Task Force wanted efforts to continue in addressing campus safety concerns.

6. The committee discussed feedback from the Chair of the Executive Board and Secretary to the Faculty on faculty governance.

7. A discussion ensued regarding the Parking and Transportation Committee. A recommendation will be made to the Executive Board.

8. The discussion on mentoring was tabled until the next meeting.

9. The next Welfare and Security Committee meeting will be 22 November at 1:00 P.M.

10. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
