Marilyn Somers is the Director of Georgia Tech's Living History Program. Her talk on this occasion featured inventors and innovators who graduated from Georgia Tech. Featured: Joe Byrd, III (GE 38), inventor of the Mark II oil pumping machine, which has become the industry standard ; Jack Clearman (ME 46), inventor of fluid drive system for showers, nozzles, and sprinklers ; Sheryl Prucka (EE 82), inventor of CardioMapp, a system for mapping cardiac arrhythmia-alterations ; Toby Williamson (IE 57), innovator of a variable thrust rocket engine used in the Lunar Lander ; Thomas Elliot (ME 38), lifelong inventor and innovator ; Kary Mullis (CE 66), winner of the 1993 Nobel prize for his invention of the polymerase chain reaction. She also showed a documentary she produced entitled: From the Ordinary to the Extraordinary: Georgia Tech Inventions and Innovators.
