The paper discusses the implementation of Dspace at the Indian Statistical Institute and incorporating S.R. Ranganathan collections including bibliography of the works by and on Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (SRR), extracts from selected letter written by him and received by him his life sketch, together with a photograph, and the entire text of the memorabilia and video on S.R.R. Especially a research organization is expected to provide fast access to information to the end users efficiently using latest technologies using Dspace. 1. Introduction A digital library is a system consisting of collections of information resources stored in digital form with its associated technical capabilities for creating, searching and accessing information. In this sense it is in an extension and enhancement of information storage and retrieval systems that manipulate digital data in any medium (text, static or dynamic images and sounds i.e. graphics video and audio) and exist in a distributed environment. The content of digital libraries includes data and metadata. Digital libraries can serve as an effective method of extending the services of a traditional library by enabling activities such as access to materials outside the physical confines of the library. The true benefit of a digital library, however, comes not from the replication and enhancement of traditional library functions, but rather in the ability to make possible tasks that would not be possible outside the electronic environment, such as the hypertext linking of related texts, and full text searching of holdings in the digital library. 2. Digital Library at Indian Statistical Institute Indian Statistical Institute provide digital access to digital information through digital libraries that enable the digital retrieval of the complete text of those documents, as well as customized services for users. Indian Statistical Institute Library has applied few digital techniques to provide service to its users. As one of the practical applications, Dspace has been installed and designed digital library Mathematics. Further, now we have incorporated S.R. Ranganathan Collection who was father of Library Science in India. It contains a bibliography of the works by and on Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (SRR), extracts from selected letter written by him and received by him his life sketch, together with a photograph, and the entire text of the memorabilia. 2.1 Photograph The photographs are sorted into photographs form India, foreign and Bangalore. Each photo is provided with a title, a code and an annotation in a few cases. 2.2. Video The multimedia in cassette was used as such. This is multimedia on cassette tape specifically produced by Mr Randor Guy for the birth centenary of SRR in 1992. The content was burnt into the CD. The CD can be operated by clicking on the related option on the Dspace. The objective was to develop a digitized, indexed, and searchable information base on SRR his life and works and which can be maintained and updated as new items are identified. In the concluding the digital library makes information accessible to the end user, in an easy-to-use form, over the World Wide Web. The main reasons to digitize are to enhance access and improve preservation.
