Abstract: Wal-Mart's Senior Vice President Greg Sullivan, will discuss lessons from his work experience.
Description: Presented on October 17, 2012 at 4:30 pm in the LeCraw Auditorium, Scheller College of Business building on the Georgia Tech campus. Greg Sullivan is a senior vice president for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. He is responsible for overseeing 108,000 associates and operations at 339 stores in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina and part of Florida. His role consists of saving customers money in the Southeast so that they can live better; executing effective business strategies for Walmart’s South Business Unit; serving communities in the Southeast and talent development for Walmart’s South Business Unit. Greg joined Walmart in 1994 as a management trainee in southern Oregon and has been with Walmart for 18 years. After learning the retail basics and progressing in store operations, Greg spent time as a Store Manager in two stores near Seattle Washington. From 2002 through 2004 he was the regional personnel manager and handled personnel issues for 85 stores in Indiana and Tennessee. He received the Regional Personnel Manager of the Year Award for the entire company in 2003 for his ability to implement programs to improve the entire company in it’s execution around critical compliance and talent development issues. After serving as a market manager and successfully implemented the new corporate operational structure, Greg was promoted to regional vice president of operations for the Rocky Mountain region based in Denver, Colorado. Greg and his family lived in Denver, Colorado for 2 years before being promoted to his current position in Atlanta, Georgia. Greg served on the board of directors for the United Cerebral Palsy foundation and has been involved in various non-profit organizations. He also served as the co-chair of the Colorado State Giving Fund. Greg currently serves on the Walmart State Giving Fund for Georgia, the EWG (Executive Women of Goizueta) Advisory Board, The Executive Leadership Recruiting Team for the American Diabetes Association and as Vice Chair of the Policy Committee for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Greg received his master’s in business at the University of Denver and his bachelor’s degree in business at the University of Washington. He resides in Marietta, Georgia with his wife Laura, his daughter Morgan and son JR. In his free time Greg enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, traveling and coaching youth football.
