Closing the digital knowledge gap in Access Services Staff
Abstract
With the changing climate of libraries and the growing use of technology and digital information, the skill sets required of access services staff is evolving. At present, many library circulation departments are staffed with groups of individuals whose exposure to the presence of new library technology varies dramatically. A disparity in this form of knowledge can prove to be taxing to an access services environment. A digital divide among staff members can impede both departmental workflow and inter-staff relations.
This presentation will discuss my experience in leveling the playing field with staff members who differ in age, library experience, and tech savyness. General guidelines on how to integrate new technology within access services and train staff with varying levels of technological exposure will be the main focus of the presentation.
