Title: Academic Productivity: The Added Value of Friendship

Abstract: This paper seeks to explain the mechanisms by which friendship affects productivity of academic scientists. The quality of professional relationships determines the individual scientists' ability to pool resources from their personal professional networks and intensifies knowledge exchange within those networks. It finds that multiplex relationships are beneficial for scientific productivity.
